This seven-day package moves through three of the southwest's most rewarding cities: Stuttgart, with its car museums and palace gardens; Baden-Baden, the 19th-century spa town whose casino, thermal baths, and colonnaded promenades still feel distinctly imperial; and Freiburg, the sunniest city in Germany, set at the edge of the Black Forest with a medieval minster at its centre and a network of Bächle water channels running through every street. Arrive in Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg and home to two of the world's greatest car museums. Visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum, 160 years of automotive history across nine floors, or the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen. The city centre has a handsome pedestrian zone, the Königstraße, and the Schlossgarten park stretches from the Old Palace to the Rosenstein Park. Overnight in Stuttgart.
Drive west to Baden-Baden, one of Europe's most storied spa towns. Set in the northern Black Forest, the city built its reputation on Roman thermal baths and reinvented itself in the 19th century as a resort for Europe's aristocracy. Visit the Friedrichsbad Roman-Irish Bath, walk the Lichtentaler Allee promenade beside the Oos River, and see the famous Kurhaus casino where Dostoevsky gambled and lost everything. A free day in Baden-Baden. Options include a morning at the Caracalla Spa thermal complex, a walk up to the Altes Schloss ruins overlooking the valley, a visit to the Kunsthalle contemporary art gallery, or a drive into the Black Forest on the Schwarzwaldhochstraße ridge road. Overnight in Baden-Baden.
Drive south through the Black Forest to Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany's sunniest city and the gateway to the southern Black Forest. At the heart of the old town stands the Freiburg Münster, a Gothic minster built between 1200 and 1513 with a single tower that is widely considered the most beautiful in the German-speaking world. Walk the Bächle, the network of narrow water channels that run along almost every street in the old town. Overnight in Freiburg.
A day into the Black Forest from Freiburg. Drive through dense spruce forest to Titisee, a glacial lake in the heart of the forest where you can hire a rowing boat or kayak on the water. Continue to Feldberg, the highest peak in the Black Forest at 1,493 m, for panoramic views toward the Alps on a clear day. Return to Freiburg in the evening. Overnight in Freiburg.
A free day in Freiburg. Climb the Münster tower for the best view of the city's red-tiled rooftops, explore the colourful market stalls around the cathedral base, visit the Augustinermuseum for the original medieval sculptures removed from the Münster for preservation, or cycle the vineyard trails of the Kaiserstuhl wine region just west of the city. Overnight in Freiburg.
After a final breakfast in Freiburg, your transfer takes you to the airport for your return flight home.
