Rise early and transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi for your pre-trek briefing by Rwanda Development Board rangers. Begin your gorilla trek through the bamboo and high-altitude forest in search of one of the park's habituated gorilla families, a group fully accustomed to human presence. Encounters last up to one hour and consistently rank among the most powerful wildlife experiences on earth. The size, gentleness, and human-like behaviour of mountain gorillas leaves virtually every visitor speechless. Return to your lodge for a celebratory lunch and afternoon of rest. This morning, track the endangered Golden Monkey, a species found only in the Virunga volcanic mountain range. These brilliantly coloured primates live in the bamboo zone of the forest and offer a lively, energetic wildlife encounter. In the afternoon, join a cultural village visit to learn about Rwandan traditions, watch traditional intore dancers, and visit a local craft cooperative.
